Blockbuster Billa 2007

Nayantara’s Billa has taken a bumper opening on day-one (Dec 14) of its release. It opened big in 229 screens across Tamilnadu and 50 odd overseas to a thundering reception.

In Chennai city’s 10 screens, it has taken an astonishing 97.5 percent opening, and in the suburbs which falls under Chengalpet territory from nearly 50 screens it has touched almost 95 percent, which truly is phenomenal!

In Coimbatore and Tiruppur towns, the film opened in a record 16 screens, and the opening is said to be fabulous, while Madurai’s five screens have also reported impressive openings.

And overseas especially in Dubai and UK, the film has taken a very good opening. In US, in places where temperature has fallen below normal and is freezing, the response to Billa has been extra-ordinary that the distributor has asked for more number of prints.

Meanwhile the trade experts say that Ajit’s Billa has taken the second best first day opening in Tamilnadu after Rajnikanth’s Sivaji, which had more number of screens! Please note this Ajit film has no Telugu dubbed version nor did it release in Kerala and Karnataka.

In Chengalpet area, a theatre started the first show of Billa at 6.03 am, and sold tickets at a ‘unofficial’ flat rate of Rs 150 and reported houseful! The theatre played the film continuously for seven shows! In Chennai city, Albert started the first official screening of the film at 8 am.

But Ajit’s critics mainly in the industry are asking the question- “Will Billa hold on to its record opening day collections? Can the guy deliver a super hit?” The producer of Billa Ananda Pictures L.Suresh says: “It is a super hit, according to all trade analysts that I have spoken to as they say it is racy and entertaining.”

Added Vishnu Vardhan: “ I was theatre hopping the whole day and the response I saw was simply fantastic with people going crazy about the film. My mobile was continuously ringing as people from all over Tamilnadu, UK, and other parts of the world called me up and said they enjoyed it.

The distributors and theatre people say they will make profits by the end of the first week. So will Billa be a super hit or a possible blockbuster? Watch this space

Billa 2007 Full Movie Download

Comparisons with the original Billa are inevitable. The 2007 version of Billa, which was made in 1980 with Rajinikanth in the lead role(s), is a faithful adaptation in terms of storyline is concerned. It looks awesome in terms of production values and cinematography. The performances and stylish looks make the movie a winner on its own merit.

Remake is always a risky affair. No one tries to remake a failure attempt and hence the success of the original naturally becomes the burden on the remake. Vishnu and Ajith have guts to take such a risk. They have worked hard to recreate the magic of original Billa (remake of Amithabh Bachchan starrer Don) with a different treatment.

The storyline is well known. It’s about a hunt of a dreaded international criminal Billa (Ajith) by police. The police officer Jai (Prabhu) somehow manages to corner Billa but he kills him in the process. In a bid to unearth the whole truth of the gang he sends a mole - Billa look alike- and tries to capture the entire group through this mole.

Velu, a petty thief, successfully infiltrates into the group and helps the officer to round them up. But the unexpected death of Jai jeopardizes their efforts and puts the innocent Velu in danger.

On the side track, you have Sasha (stunningly beautiful and sexy Nayantara), who wants to kill Billa to avenge her brother’s death. Then you have Jagdhish, the super boss of the gang (Raguman), and CJ (glam girl Namitha), the girl friend of Billa, to add shades to the crime thriller.

How Velu gets rid of his predicament and how the police eliminate the gang form the rest of the story.

As mentioned earlier, comparisons with the original are but natural. The movie does impress in its stunningly impressive ma

Billa Audio Released

It was just a formality. The audio was released already by the original 'Billa'. Super Star Rajnikanth released the audio on 20th November(shown in picture) in a simple audio release function at his residence.

However, the CDs and cassettes were not released in the markets for sale. The producers arranged for a formal function to mark the formal release of 'Billa 2007' Audio on 26th of November 2007 at Hotel Residence here in Chennai.

The function was short and sweet. Ajith (the hero), Yuvan Shankar Raja (music director), Raguman (villain probably), and Vishnu Vardhan (director) shared a few words with the media persons.

Vishnu showed great confidence about the outcome of the movie and attributed the result to the entire team that worked for the film. The re-made film was shot in Malaysia to give it a fresh look.
Ajith was shinning in black suit, looked smart. He thanked everyone and said that he had said everything he wanted to tell in the press meet he organized last week. He requested the media persons to ask questions if needed. But none had any doubts in their mind.

The sensational young musician Yuvan was wearing a cap. For him, the experience of working with Vishnu, his school mate, was a fun.

Prabhu, who has donned an important role in the movie, delivered a relatively longer speech. He went about explaining how the entire team was working for the movie. He praised producer Suresh for his dignified conduction. Prabhu heaped laurels on Ajith and described him as an amiable and kind person in the film industry. It was a delight to work with Ajith, he said.

Producer L. L Anandha Suresh, who coordinated the function, thanked everyone for their fullest involvement in the venture. He particularly thanked Rajinikanth for granting permission to remake his movie. He also thanked the media for the importance given to the film right from the beginning.

Earlier, the sleek and stylish trailer was screened. A reporter asked for “once more” and the organizers obliged. The audio has been brought out by Ayngaran Internationals. Karunas of Ayngaran Internationals was also present on the occasion.

Billa Review

1980 Billa Review
Billa is a lousy remake of the popular Hindi film Don starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Pran.

However, Tamil film audiences - most of whom were unlikely to have seen the Hindi movie Don or the English movie Godfather, which inspired this genre of films in India - lapped up Billa and it went on to become a super hit.

Billa did for Rajnikanth what Don did for Amitabh Bachchan - provided him a big leg up in his climb to superstardom.

What distinguishes Billa from Don is the pitiful and downright crude performances by most of the actors - with Sripriya and Thengaai Srinivasan being particularly eggregious.

Unlike Amitabh Bachchan in Don, Rajnikanth threw in a so-so performance in dual roles as the bad guy and the good guy.

Billa's music was one of the highlights behind the success of the film. Iravum Pagalum and My Name is Billa are two of the better songs.

The dance scenes that accompany most of the songs in Billa are absolutely hilarious. It's safe to say that both Sripriya and Rajnikanth in Billa have no concept of the dance form.

Sripriya as the heroine is sheer agony to watch and endure. Far worse is to see her doing some of the most bizarre stunt scenes we've ever had the misfortune to watch on the big screen.

Unlike the svelte Zeenat Aman in Don, Sripriya looks like a baby elephant. In Billa, Sripriya couldn't act and couldn't dance. How she landed the heroine's role is beyond our comprehension.

A big time smuggler and ruthless criminal, Billa meets his nemesis in the Deputy Superintendent of Police Alexander (Balaji) and is killed.

To nab the entire gang, the Deputy Superintendent of Police devises a masterplan. He does not disclose Billa's death. Instead, he hires a street artiste and Billa look-alike Rajappa (Rajnikanth) to impersonate Billa and infiltrate the criminal gang. In return, he offers to take care of two young kids that Billa has been looking after.

To Billa's horror, the police officer is soon killed by the criminals. Rajappa and the gang are captured by the police, who refuse to believe his persistent statements that he is just an impostor of the dead Billa and trying to help the cops. However, the criminals quickly realize Rajappa's an impostor and not the real Billa.

Rajappa is now caught between the Scylla of the disbelieving police and the Charybdis of the vicious hoodlums. Is there a way out for him?

Sripriya plays the role of Radha, who joins Billa's gang to avenge her brother Rajesh's death at the hands of Billa.

Nayanthara in Billa

Nayanthara has bounced back in Kollywood with a bang! She has signed on the dotted line to be Ajit’s heroine for Vishnuvardhan directed Billa.

Isha Sherwani who was given an advance was dropped as she demanded the moon and the makers thought that Ajit-Nayan combination is any day a hotter proposition.

This news comes at a time when everybody had written off Nayanthara after a few intimate photographs with her former lover appeared in a section of the media. And later there was this rumour about her suicide attempt!

Nayanthara told Moviebuzz: “All this has made me a much stronger person. I believe that rumours and fame go hand in hand. I want to make it clear once again that I am focusing all my energies on my career in Tamil and Telugu.”

Nayan has given continuous bulk dates from May for Billa. Vishnu and Ananda Suresh are just back after finalizing locations in Malaysia and Singapore for the shoot.

Nearly 65 percent of the film will be shot in foreign locales and it will be one of the most stylishly shot films in Tamil. Ajit and Nayanthara is sure to sizzle as they make a fine pair.
